Daily Life

There is a sense of peace and tranquility that can be felt when entering Pyareo Home, yet, during the week the place is buzzing with activities and enthusiasm. Some of these things might happen in a day at Pyareo:

Our administrator is busy moving throughout the building, communicating and coordinating events with residents and staff. The cook is in the kitchen, creating the menu and ordering organic produce for the week. The nurse has read the daily log, studied the residents' medical needs, and is now conversing with a dear one. A resident is in his room, sitting comfortably in his favorite reclining chair, enjoying an old classic movie while his laundry is taken care of. An aide has checked in on the residents, made sure everyone has had breakfast and is now helping a dear one to bathe in the walk-in tub. A local gardener comes with fresh-cut flowers to adorn the dining tables.

Out on the front lawn, neighbor children stop by with their horses, to visit with the residents and staff. A volunteer sits with a resident for lunch and offers to pick things up for her at the store. Children from local schools visit bringing along holiday decorations, songs, stories, laughs and smiles. Musicians come and delight the residents with their talents. An ambiance of warm family-like feelings pervades the building.

The Facility

Inside the main meeting area of our building is a large great room where residents can walk around for exercise, where we hold social gatherings and where meals are served. Tall ceilings and skylights give our home a warm, light and open feeling the year round. The subtle sound of a small waterfall brings a peaceful presence to the common meeting area, as radiant floor heating ensures a comfortable environment all year. Surrounding indoor greenery is illuminated by sunlight streaming through the windows overhead. An efficient kitchen, a sun-room, the seven residents’ rooms, a guest room, the caretaker's residence and meditation room open off the central great room.

Each of the bedrooms has a private bathroom and an adjacent patio where the dear ones can tend their own flowers and plants and enjoy the natural surroundings. As a resident's room is considered his or her private space, dear ones are encouraged to decorate and furnish their personal area in a way which is most comfortable for them. Those who can are welcome to do their own laundry. Some small pets are permitted. Our building is all on one level, encircled by a walkway for warm weather strolls.

There are vegetable and flower gardens with benches in the back to sit and enjoy. For those who are able, there is a path into the woods by a bubbling brook with a bridge built by local students.

“I am extremely appreciative for all the service and help that Pyareo has given to my mother, Helen. It is where she chooses to be and I know that she could never get this kind of loving care anywhere else” - John Downing
